Protecting household appliances from quick calcification

Everybody knows the ugly and visible scale accumulations on sinks and tiles in bathrooms.

Sadly enough, hidden parts of household appliances like heating rods, interior lining and piping can also be affected by scale.

At high and low water temperatures (steam cookers/ice making machines), lime found in water is loosened.

The base of steam irons becomes stump due to the use of lime-containing water. For newer machines, de-scaling aids must be bought regularly. The nozzles on older steam irons must be de-scaled.

The old fashioned, “simple“ household appliances are often exchanged for high quality machines with many functions that are quite pricey. Fully automatic coffee machines are becoming increasingly popular. Food is prepared with new techniques instead of conventional cooking methods, for example steamers. Refrigerators are sometimes equipped with ice cube makers or ice cube makers are used on the table. Using filtered drinking water can increase the life expectancy of these kitchen aids. This way, expensive substitute purchases can be avoided.

When the heating rods in household appliances calcify, the heating time increases and more energy is used than necessary. That has a bad influence on the household’s savings. Vinegar is known as a de-scaling aid, but is often too aggressive.
