Water as a natural cosmetic
Water is an important component of functional skin cells. Beauty knows no thirst!
If the body lacks water, the skin cells water content is reduced. Consequently, the skins structure worsens and it becomes dry and sometimes flaky and rough.
Water stored in deeper skin layers comes from the inside of the body. It is the fluid from the inside of the body that enables a sufficient circulation and consequently rosy and elastic skin. It prevents little crinkles from appearing.
Thalassotherapy Seawater as a cosmetic and energizer
Thalassotherapy (“thalassos“ is Greek for “sea“) is a treatment using seawater, seaweed, mud and sand. Thalassotherapy uses the seas potency and its richness in trace elements, vitamins, proteins and minerals. Seawater, sea salt, seaweed and mud are consequently used in Thalassotherapy.
The ingredients affect the body in many positive ways. If they are sufficiently concentrated, our organism’s metabolism is improved in a lasting way. The skin is supplied with oxygen.
Using seawater is an important attribute for the original Thalassotherapy.
The therapy consists of sessions with seawater (baths, showers and aqua-aerobics), mudpacks and seaweed packs.
Institutions offering Thalassotherapy close to the sea offer special walks based on climate therapy.
By walking near the surf, a salty sea breeze (tiny droplets of water also known as aerosols) is breathed deep into the lung. There, deep-seated mucus is loosened.
Air only contains condensed seawater in immediate proximity to the sea. It works through inhalation and through the skin.
Alternatively, special types of mist consisting of seawater and essential oils can be inhaled in certain rooms.
Massages and gymnastics supplement Thalassotherapy.
The respective treatments seek to reduce stress, improve general wellbeing and help relaxation. Even just standing in seawater decelerates the patient’s heartbeat.
Thalassotherapy is recommended when a patient suffers from respiratory problems, skin problems, a tense back, and sleeping problems and in order to support weight loss and purification.
Thalassotherapy at home
Methods used in Thalassotherapy can be applied at home, for example:
- Have a seawater bath
- enjoy body packs and facemasks with seaweed
- apply a sea salt peeling to your hands
A body peeling can for example be homemade using 1 cup of water, 1 cup of olive oil and 1 cup of sea salt. For best results, apply to body (avoiding the face) in the shower or bathtub. Rinse with warm water.
After application, you should relax for around 20 minutes.
